Search for the cheapest biryani in Dubai and you'll find plenty of AED 10 signs. What you won't always find is a plate that actually tastes like biryani — slow-cooked, properly spiced, real meat on the bone. That gap between the price and the plate is the whole reason we started 10 Dirham Biryani back in 2014, out of a small kitchen in Al Karama.
The promise was simple, and we've kept it: real dum biryani, hand-cooked, from AED 10. Not a scoop of yellow rice with a stock cube. The actual thing.
How a genuinely good biryani can cost AED 10
The honest answer is that cheap biryani is usually made cheap in the wrong places — thinner meat, powdered flavour, shortcuts on the rice. We went the other way. We kept the food exactly as it should be and stripped out everything around it that quietly pushes prices up.
- We buy our own supply. Rice, chicken and spices come through our own channels in the volumes we actually use. We cut middlemen, not corners.
- The menu is short on purpose. A tight menu means we cook a few things extremely well, waste almost nothing, and buy ingredients in a way that keeps costs sane.
- Our kitchens are small and focused. No sprawling fit-outs, no showroom dining rooms to pay for. The money goes into the deg, not the décor.
- No franchise tax on your plate. There's no franchise fee, no head-office markup, no glossy overheads baked into every order.
Stack those savings together and AED 10 stops looking like a gimmick. It's just what the food costs when you refuse to pay for the things that were never about the food.
What AED 10 actually gets you
The flagship is “The 10er” — a proper chicken dum biryani for AED 10. Here's what's on the plate:
- Real bone-in chicken, marinated overnight in real masalas — not reheated, not stretched.
- Long-grain Sella basmati rice, the variety that holds its shape and soaks up the layered spice instead of turning to mush.
- Dum-cooked — sealed and slow-steamed over charcoal in copper degs, the way biryani is meant to be finished.
- Sides that belong with it — cooling raita and, on request, mirchi ka salan to round the plate out.
If you're new to the method itself, we broke it down properly in what is dum biryani — worth a read before you order, because it explains why this tastes nothing like the fried “biryani rice” you get elsewhere.
The full price list
Ten dirhams is the starting point, not the ceiling. Here's the honest, current line-up:
- Veg biryani — AED 8
- Egg biryani — AED 9
- The 10er (chicken dum biryani) — AED 10
- Boneless chicken biryani — AED 12
- Beef biryani — AED 12
- Mutton biryani — AED 15
- Prawn biryani — AED 18 (Friday special)
- Family Dum (serves 4) — AED 35
Add a few sides and you've still spent less than one plate costs at most places: raita, mirchi ka salan, karak chai, mango lassi and gulab jamun are all there when you want to make it a proper meal. The full menu — with combos — lives on the menu page.
Cheap food is easy. Cheap food that's actually good is a choice about where you spend and where you don't. We chose the plate.
Halal, and made properly
All our meat is halal, full stop. Everything is hand-cooked using the traditional dum method — marinated overnight, layered, and slow-steamed rather than tossed in a pan. We keep vegetarian options on the menu every day, and Jain options are available on request. Being the cheapest biryani in Dubai has never meant being the least careful.
